Session 1: Assignment One Question

This week we talked about the role of information systems in a business (Slide 9 of Lecture 1).



Think of a business or organization that you admire, then describe two examples of how that business is supported by information systems. For example, do they use it for operational excellence ? Or do they use it to create new products and services ?






Nowaday, IT products is all around everywhere, such as our mobile phone, Play Station Portable, MP3 Player and etc. Business company has been using the IT technology to improve and create something new products and services as well.







Internet Banking is one of good example to decrible how business company provides and be supported by information systems. Bank of Communication, is one of my most frequent use internet banking.






Bank of Communication's internet banking provides services like basic account enquiry, fund transfer, credit card service and payment, bill payment, foreign exchange and even as advance service as stock excahnge, insurance, mortgage service and investment service. That leads everyone can manage their banking needs and enquiry wherever they are, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at home or even oversea.






By the improvement of IT technology, investors can get most updated and real-time information including stock value, financial news and information. Hence, people are much more easier than ever before to involve with the financial investment, plus saving time to queue at bank branch.



Moreover, stock exchange as well as most of other banking services over internet banking, is much less, cheaper service charge than man teller at bank branch.


The internet banking services, are reliable, interactive and cost saving of newly banking system, is getting more and more popular and frequent used by public.

  1. Internet banking has become another regular sales/service channel for banks, just like the ATM machine and the bank branch. One major advantage of this channel is that banks can observe and track what users are clicking on, what they are more interested in, and perhaps use this knowledge to personalize the information and the marketing messages to each customer.
